Electrolux has been producing this mixer in Sweden for over fifty years. It's well known in the rest of the world, less well so here because it's not in discount stores.
The Assistent (not -ant) works completely differently from American-style mixers. As can be seen, there's no mixer head with a hot motor hanging over the food. The motor is in the base. Instead of having paddles, dough hook, etc., driven from above, the big, heavy stainless steel bowl has a notch at the bottom that connects to the motor base. The bowl itself turns! Rather than having a beating paddle, there is a roller with spiral grooves that attaches to the arm shown in the photo, and this roller is what mixes. And does it extremely well, and without splattering food all over like a cheap Kitchen Aid. There is also a nylon scraper that scrapes the side of the bowl clean while mixing. The real revelation is being able to stand over this mixer and add ingredients, to watch everything and not be peeking around a mixer head. This machine is super quiet. Two dials on the front; one for infinitely variable speed, one for timing. The mixing bowl is heavy stainless steel and will hold roughly a gallon in it. It will do roughly four times the number of loaves of bread as the best Chinese made Kitchen Aid. I find I can routinely double my cake recipes if I want because the bowl is so big. It is no heavier than a Kitchen Aid and takes up no more counter space. The amazing part to me is that no American company ever thought of making a competitor because this type of mixer is so very different. All Kitchen Aid machines now are coming out of Red China. This comes right out of Sweden. I've owned mine for a number of years, never a problem, and so quiet!
This review is for Electrolux Assistent, bought a few years ago from Amazon (5 yr maybe). It used to have a lot of good reviews. Guess now the product name changed and reviews are gone. Looks very similar -- there's one currently selling with 220v only still on Amazon. Mine is 110v for American market.
The mixer is super! I've used and broke two KichenAid models, all 5Qts and up. They simply burned out, couldn't finish a couple rounds of heavy kneeling of dry dough. I'm very satisfied with this mixer. We made dumplings every once in a while, and every time it worked hard and worked well. Well worth the money! I recommended it to all my friends.
